The course aims to provide a comprehensive and applied overview of the petrophysical evaluation process using open-hole well logs, with a focus on the Oil & Gas industry. Throughout the course, the fundamental concepts of electrical logging, data preparation and quality control, and the workflow required to build consistent and technically robust petrophysical evaluations are reviewed. The main interpretation models are developed in detail, addressing the determination of shale volume, porosity, resistivity, saturation, and permeability, as well as the definition of net sand and net pay. The different electrical logging tools (Gamma Ray, Spectral Gamma Ray, SP, Density, Neutron, Sonic, and resistivity tools), their scope, limitations, and common issues are analyzed. The course places special emphasis on integrating log data with rock information, using crossplots, selecting appropriate petrophysical parameters, and applying logical constraints. It also addresses complex lithologies, shaly sands, and water saturation models, highlighting the importance of data scale and the consistency of the final model. The approach is highly practical and based on real examples, with the goal of helping participants develop sound criteria for interpreting electrical logs and reliably evaluating formations, applicable to different geological settings and stages of reservoir development.
