Abstract

It is a well-established fact that the lime industry of San Juan has prepared itself to meet the demands of large-scale copper mining in the coming years. In this context, it has undergone a significant transformation by incorporating some of the most advanced technologies available worldwide. The production of lime of outstanding quality, using high-efficiency kilns, has led to exponential growth while reducing the carbon footprint.

To address this topic, which also represents a major challenge, Eng. Raúl Cabanay, General Manager of Caleras San Juan, will discuss the relevance of lime in mining processes, its impact, and the future needs of the copper industry at both national and international levels. In his presentation, he will explain how lime production capacity in the province is expected to reach 2.2 million tons by 2030, driven by the global energy transition.
