Symposium on the Hydrological Cycle and its Impact on Governance

Organizers: Silvio Pastore, Mg; Facundo Vita Serman, Dr; Paula Santi Malnis, Dra.

The reduction in water supply, within the context of climate change and sustained population growth projected through 2050, necessitates improvements in science-based decision-making processes.

In order to build upon the activities carried out during the 2024 Workshop “The Hydrological Cycle in the Province of San Juan from a Geoscientific Perspective,” we propose the “Symposium on the Hydrological Cycle and its Impact on Governance.”

This symposium will once again serve as a forum for discussion grounded in updated scientific data concerning the future outlook of the water crisis. In this edition, the local and national institutions specialized in water-related issues will participate (UNSJ, INTA, INA-CRAS, Department of Hydraulic Engineering, Irrigación Mendoza, CIGIAA, CONAE, and the Provincial Government), with the aim of sharing and discussing progress and changes implemented since 2024 in aspects related to water governance.

The symposium’s guidelines will also be based on the conclusions reached at the 2024 Workshop, which identified education, territorial planning, and the integration of public and private data as essential and non-negotiable priorities. Likewise, continuous training of water users remains fundamental, as it is critical for the successful implementation and long-term sustainability of efficient and sustainable water-use systems.
