Cultural Tourism and Urban Walks

Must-See Attractions in the City
  • De Mayo Park (Parque de Mayo)
It is the city’s main green lung. Ideal for walking, jogging, or relaxing. The park connects the spaces where the congress will take place, forming its central axis. With mature trees, a central lake, picnic areas, and a café at its heart, it is a must-visit place for a stroll.
  • Civic Center
This is an iconic building from the reconstruction of San Juan after the 1944 earthquake. It stands out for its modern architecture and institutional function.
  • Former San Martín and Belgrano Railway Stations
Witnesses to the local railway past. Currently, the former Belgrano station houses the Institute and Museum of Natural Sciences, one of the venues of CGA XXIII, and the new Paleontological Museum (MUPA) is being developed adjacent to it. These stations are located within San Juan’s cultural hub, surrounded by green gardens, and are places that invite visitors to explore them.
  • Teatro del Bicentenario
It is one of the most important cultural centers in the country, featuring contemporary architecture and a diverse artistic program. The beauty of its entrance hall stands out, and guided tours of the interior are offered, which must be scheduled in advance.
  • Auditorio Juan Victoria
A historic music complex, renowned for its acoustics and its monumental German organ, one of the few of its kind in the country. Weekly concerts are held here, and the Mozarteum also presents special monthly events. It is located opposite Parque de Mayo, within the cultural hub near the congress venue.
  • Museo de Historia Urbana
Located in Parque de Mayo, this space is dedicated to the memory and urban evolution of the province of San Juan. Its green wall in the middle of Parque 25 de Mayo draws visitors’ attention, as do its modern architecture and its exhibition, which allows an understanding of the province’s character, intertwined with a history of earthquakes closely linked to the province’s geology.
  • Plaza 25 de Mayo
This is the historic square of the province and a traditional meeting point. Ideal for enjoying local life while having a coffee.
  • San Juan Bautista Cathedral
A modern temple with a panoramic bell tower offering 360° views of the city and the mountain range (recommended at sunset). This cathedral was rebuilt after the earthquake, and it is worth visiting to see the Christ inside, which is completely different from what we are accustomed to seeing.
  • Casa Natal de Sarmiento (Sarmiento’s Birthplace; National Historic Monument)
One of the few colonial constructions preserved in the city after the earthquake. Sarmiento lived in this house with his family, and the warmth of its architecture invites visitors to discover his life from within his home. It currently functions as a museum and library.

A low-difficulty trail through semi-arid landscapes and striking folds and faults in the famous limestones of San Juan
  • Tres Marías Hill (Rivadavia, 16 km)

  • Ischigualasto Provincial Park (Valle Fértil, 270 km)
A UNESCO World Heritage Site together with Talampaya National Park in La Rioja Province. It offers the observation of an iconic site with an almost complete Triassic sequence, emblematic landforms such as El Hongo and La Cancha de Bochas, in a place internationally known as the “Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” featuring a diverse fauna of dinosaurs, other paleovertebrates, and plants that provide a window into Triassic paleoecosystems.

  • Tulum, Zonda, and Ullum Valleys
In these valleys, wineries and olive oil industries with tastings are combined with extraordinary landscapes and textbook geology, consisting of folds, thrusts, and a mosaic of geological units ranging from the Cambrian to the Pliocene.
  • Ullum and Punta Negra Dams
The province has two bodies of water noted for their turquoise waters, where various water-based activities are practiced. Both dams feature beaches with recreational areas, ideal for enjoying autumn sunsets.
